A different kind of Ryder Cup…

Tony spoke to former Reuters golf correspondent Tony Jimenez about the time he had to argue against a group of unknown players being picked ahead of Europe’s elite in the Ryder Cup: “It seems scarcely believable now but ahead of the 1987 Ryder Cup there was a move to replace superstars like Seve Ballesteros, Nick Faldo and Bernhard Langer in my European team with a group of club professionals. TRIBUTE TO THE LATE JOHN O’LEARY

Tony spoke to former Reuters golf correspondent Tony Jimenez about the sad passing of John O’Leary: “John and I went back a long, long while - the best part of 50 years in fact. He and I shared a lot of good times together, especially down in South Africa, where his wife Ingrid was from. My heart goes out to all the millions who are suffering and one small, but sad and not so insignificant by-product of this awful problem is that sport has been forced into a complete shutdown. Elite golfers, footballers, tennis players all bring the global community... Read more...

In all my years I’ve never known anything quite like the massive upheaval that’s now being caused by the coronavirus outbreak, not just in golf but in everyday life. It’s really difficult to get your head around the affects of this health scare. We won’t know if the governments of the world are over-reacting or not but one thing is for sure, we don’t want people falling over everywhere and then realise we’ve all under-reacted. I see that Jack Nicklaus has said that he doesn’t believe the Masters can now be played this season and I think he has a valid point. A summer-time date would... Read more...
